PEOPLE LOCATION - BIRTH PARENT
If you were adopted through a court in England and Wales, the provisions of the 1976 Adoption Act entitle you to the information on your original birth certificate, and to know which court or agency handled your adoption. If your records still exist, you may be allowed access to your adoption file, subject to the relevant agency's approval. Those adopted before 12th November 1975 are required to receive counselling from an approved Counsellor before being allowed access to this information. This is required by law, as some natural parents and adopters may have been led to believe that their children would never be able to trace their original names or the identity of their parents. If you were adopted after 11th November 1975, you are not legally required to seek counselling, but we strongly recommend that you arrange an appointment with a qualified counsellor, before we begin your search. Tracing and re-uniting people separated in this way is a specialised process, and we strongly recommend that you seek professional guidance from an approved adoption agency who will provide support both during and after the search period. For many adoptees, the opportunity to talk to someone who truly understands their situation can be invaluable. Please note that our people search engine could trace your birth parent instantly. It calls upon numerous people tracing tools, including past and present Electoral Rolls, Birth Indexes, Death records, the official Marriage Register and an edited version of our unique Tracesmart Register. Visit Tracesmart today and start your birth parent trace. We offer monthly access from just £14.95. |
